Hi there.

I just discovered this world of Class T amps and after a lot of reading I'm planning to buy a TA-10.

I store all my music on a laptop and external drive. I use an Apple AirPort Express to stream music to some crappy computer speakers, currently.

My question for you all is, when is a DAC needed?

I'm thinking I can do without one, and just hook up the TA-10 to the AirPort Express and be in business.

Any thoughts or tips?

Thanks!

The DAC comes into play when a higher quality front end is needed. You do need to have digital out (coax or optical) from the laptop, or go the USB DAC route. I have heard on several forums the USB DAC can be finicky with which players/OS combinations are used. If you are happy with the Airexpress sound quality, then no DAC needed, until you want to squeeze a little more from your digital playback system.

Cheers!

The airport express actually has a digital output! You will need a mini-to-optical digital Toslink adapter to connect the airport express to a DAC.

You can start by using the TA-10 connected directly to the airport express with the analog-out and later upgrade your setup with a DAC between the airport express and TA-10.
