Hello to all:

Has any heard the "Unity Audio's Inner Spirit" speakers and if so what are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance to all replies,

I can speak for the Whitewater, which I am sure shares a sonic signature similiar to the Inner Spirit. Really you are buying a box with a Fostex driver in it and thus get all the pluses and minus of this driver.

Pluses
Very efficient, driven well by 6wpc or better
Holographic vocals, due to no crossover and smooth midrange
Excellent imaging and soundstage
Bass Reflex design allows flexibility in placement
No fatigue, you can listen all day to these

Minus
Highest treble is subdued
Even with wall reinforcement, low bass is not there at all
Will play loud but not reach concert levels
Heavy Rock / Metal / Bass Heavy Rap can sound congested

So why buy a speaker that does not do bass or treble well? The clarity of midrange these speakers reproduce is addictive. Classical instruments sound very accurate. Male and female vocals sound uncanny, like the singer is in the room with you. Cheryl Crow plucking her guitar is something to be heard.

Unity uses bass reflex designs, so placement is easy. If you want to get bass, you need to look for a horn loaded design. More money and harder placement is the tradeoff.

I use my HT subwoofer, and am happy with my purchase.

Sasha is good in that he will let you try it for 30 days, and if they do not meet your expectations you can get your money back, putting you out shipping only.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply willyspuddle.

I'm also considering these babies:

Quite a bit more expensive but from what I heard and read worth every penny.

The Omega's are gorgeous, and I am sure sonically superior. OBAD concentrates on the highest value/price/performance. For the Omega's you could own Unity cables/interrconnects, Unity Inner Spirit, Zhalou DAC, and a Trends amp and still have cash in your pocket. I have heard good reviews on this Fostex based speaker http://www.thehornshoppe.com/model1.html still around the price of the Omega's.

Cheers!

Anyone try the Clearwater's yet? I may be looking at a pair of these as I need something I can place closer to the wall. The price and specs seem pretty good...

willys review of the whitewater is dead on. those little bastards image very well.

stickers, i have an older version of the clearwater and they are good for what i paid for them. no where in comparison to my main speakers though (they cost more than 10X what i paid for the clearwater). the new version must sound better as it is an improved version. i have yet to hear them though.

I support both Unity because its Canadian made and Omega because Louis is a nice guy and he has family in Montreal, so they both great for low powered T-Amps. I heard the Omegas paired with Red Wine Audio's Signature 30, but thats a different price range of equipment. Another player that is not that well known are Tekton Design's which are similar to the Unity in design and price.

I placed an order with Obad Imports and have heard nothing but a standard auto-reply. Does this place exist?

Is Unity still in business? They keep an extreemly low profile. Still no website as far as I can tell.
